Guess Who No. 2 |
Baseball America rates him as the Twins No. 4 prospect; the rankings at Twins Daily have him No. 1. He has big time velocity on his side -- in his spring debut on Sunday, Romero was reportedly sitting comfortably in the upper 90s -- and is said to have a plus slider as well.
Downside: He's had Tommy John surgery, which wiped out his 2014 and 2015 seasons. And he's short for a righty, listed at 6 feet even.
He split last year between Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers -- low A and high A -- making 16 starts and pitching less than 90 innings. My guess is he'll start 2017 at Fort Myers again and move quickly to Double A Chattanooga. Command and the changeup are prominent on his work-on chart.
