Kurt Suzuki is either congratulating Neil Ramirez on getting three outs to end Friday's game or introducing himself to the Twins' most recent roster addition. Or both. |
Twenty-three pitchers seems like a lot of arms to go though, and it is.
Six of the 23 are no longer on the 40 man roster, although two of them -- Phil Hughes and Glen Perkins -- are on the 60-day disabled list. Tommy Milone and Ryan O'Rourke passed through waivers and Casey Fien and J.R. Graham did not. (Fien was claimed by the Dodgers, waived by them and unclaimed, then recalled and has pitched well for LA: seven innings, nine strikeouts, no runs in his first seven appearances. Graham was claimed by the Yankees and optioned to their Double A affiliate, where his numbers aren't looking bad at all: 2.02 ERA in seven appearances.)
Two of the 23 made just one appearance with the big league club (Graham and J.T. Chargois); two others (Alex Meyer and Perkins) just two.
Speaking of Perkins:
Perk set for an MRI around noon today, then flying to Anaheim to see another doctor.https://t.co/C3FWFTS2jS— Phil Mackey (@PhilMackey) June 13, 2016

With Glen Perkins headed to LA for third opinion on shoulder, Dr. Neal ElAttrache at Kerlan-Jobe appears to be the orthopedist of choice.— Mike Berardino (@MikeBerardino) June 13, 2016
ElAttrache is the surgical star of "The Arm," the must-read baseball book of the season. He will be the third physician Perkins has consulted about his shoulder. I do not expect to see Perkins on the hill again this year.
