Joe is worth a long, expensive contract. He's already obviously a player of the quality of such hallowed names as Killebrew, Oliva, Carew, and Puckett. He deserves a "legacy" contract.GZimmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00343987749136219839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7195084204316698108.post-41004765761063903662010-02-03T19:46:43.949-06:002010-02-03T19:46:43.949-06:00Not many catchers (actually, no other catchers) ha...Not many catchers (actually, no other catchers) have won an AL batting title.

Mauer has three, and he's 26 years old. This contract will be -and should be - unprecedented for a catcher, or any player for that matter. The Twins can't afford upwards of $25 million per year, so they'll have to offer Mauer a longer deal to compensate.

Overpaying on the last 1-3 years of the deal is the price you pay for a HOF-er in their prime.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7195084204316698108.post-86550744972896405522010-02-03T00:56:59.311-06:002010-02-03T00:56:59.311-06:00Twins would be crazy to accept ten years.
